We strive to create a safe and fun learning environment for all of our students and customers. To be true to this we need to always put student and customer safety first above all else. This is not only students being safe from injury – but also safe from bullying, harassment, and abuse. When a coach or staff member is occupied with so many tasks at once it can be hard to spot all potential hazards, near misses, and incidents between students. It is important to avoid getting tunnel vision and zoning in too hard on one student / customer even when they need direct supervision and feedback. Keep those “zoned in” moments as brief as possible to keep your focus on the group you are with and be able to spot any risks to student safety that need to be addressed.
When a student / guest is subject to bullying, harassment, or abuse their safety is at risk. It is important that we deal with these issues quickly, with sensitivity, and proportionately. All coaches are responsible for the safety of students and are obligated to report anything that they have seen to the head coach and / or manager in detail at the end of the lesson. The most experienced staff member on the floor should deal with these issues and hand them over to the receptionist as necessary.
Please refer to the Bullying & Disciplinary Procedures section of coach training for more information.
If you identify a hazard to safety due to a problem with any of the equipment within SITE, please make a note of it immediately. There is a #safety-maintenance channel within the Slack app used for internal staff communications, please provide as much information as you can along with a photo that shows the obvious location of the hazard. Report the hazard to all staff members on shift so that everyone is aware of it. If the hazard is an immediate threat to the health of students and customers, close off the area and prevent anyone from using the equipment involved.
