Hierarchy of Consequences

Our hierarchy of consequences is a 4-stage colour graded system where all students start on Green at the start of every class and depending on their actions, be moved through the coloured stages. Students must be informed that they have received a warning and for what reason, to ensure that there is clear communication of issues and how we would like them to be resolved before we have to escalate it higher.

Any student that is moved past yellow will be documented and students who repeat orange zone behaviour will eventually be moved to the red zone, be removed from the class for a full session, and the parents will be notified.

Green (Stage One) – non-verbal communications and quick verbal reminders (not listening or paying attention, won’t sit still and listen, talking over coaches)
Those who have received a non-verbal reminder such as eye contact or hand gestures may stay in the green zone if they are following a coach’s request for them to correct their behaviour. Quick verbal reminders also leave students in the green zone.
Yellow (Stage Two) – verbal communication of bad behaviour & time out to talk to coach (interrupting coach, foul or inappropriate language, distracting other students)
Students who have displayed bad behaviour will be pulled aside and informed of what the coach has witnessed and why it is unacceptable. This is an opportunity to listen to what the student has to say and to find out if anything was missed during the incident.
Orange (Stage Three) – verbal communication of bad behaviour and sent to reception area to reflect (direct offensive language, disrespecting others, repeat offenses)
When students have either failed to correct their yellow warning behaviour or have displayed cruel intent with their actions and/or words, they are to be taken aside and handed over to the reception worker. Depending on the severity of the actions 5, 10, or 15-minute time outs may be given.
Red (Stage Four) – removed from the class for the day and parents notified of the behaviour (hitting another student, any form of bullying, continuous offenses with no remorse)
When students are involved in a serious harassment and/or bullying incident, or have received warnings on all other colour zones and failed to correct their behaviour, they are to be removed from the class for the week and the parents are to be notified of their actions.
