What is never acceptable when disciplining a student?
How can we discipline and still keep a safe, inclusive and supportive environment?
How should we address serious behavioural issues when we have the whole class’s attention?
Here is a reminder of the meaning of each stage in the hierarchy of consequences.
Green – brief verbal warning for minor disruption to class – such as not listening, speaking over coaches, etc.
Yellow – pulled aside for a chat with a senior coach about behaviour, last warning before time out – for multiple green offences, or more serious disruption to class / disrespect of coaches or students
Orange – pulled aside by coach for a chat about behaviour and given a time out – for multiple yellow offences, or for more serious incidents such as physical or verbal harassment of another student or coach
Red – removed from class due to multiple orange offences, phone call to parents about behaviour and last chance before discussing removing from lessons for the term
